Breast Cancer Campaign Gym-a-thon

Fundraisers in Rochdale donned pink outfits this morning (Sunday 24 October 2010) for a gym session to raise money for charity.

Twenty five men and women took part in a two hour “gym-a-thon” at Fitness for Life gym on Rooley Moor Road to raise funds for registered charity Breast Cancer Campaign.

The session ties in with the charity’s “Wear it Pink” day and members wore various items of pink clothing, one man took part in the actives dressed as a panther and the ladies wore pink wigs, hats, tights - one lady even donned a pair of pink wellington boots!

Organiser Lesley Stott was delighted with the event, she said: “We have been doing this for a number of years, everyone here has been touched by breast cancer in one way or another – I lost a friend and my sister-in-law between four and six years ago and Paul Brophy, who also took part, his wife suffered from breast cancer but she is all well now. So we have all been touched a lot.

“This is the fourth time we have done this. We generally raise £1,000 every year for the Breast Cancer Campaign; our next event is a pub crawl.”

The gym participants enjoyed an hour step class and a fun party games fitness class.

Afterwards they unwound with pink food and a raffle. Prizes were awarded to the best dressed male and female.

Summing up the event Ms Stott said: “It has been good fun, we all got a good sweat on but it has been a brilliant day. It is a really good do; I love this month because we have so much going on.”

Winner of the best dressed male went to Rochdale  Web Designer, Jon Pudny, who dressed as a pink Elvis for the event.

Mr Pudny said: “Today went really well. It had been hard trying to find a pink outfit so I ended up going for a fancy dress costume. It has been good fun and it is all for a good cause.

“Thank you to all the girls from Falinge Park High School for the money they gave me, and everyone else I have seen. People can still sponsor me online until the 29 October.”

Those who took part paid £5 for the classes and all of the money raised from today will go to the Breast Cancer Campaign.

The Breast Cancer Campaign uses all wear it pink donations to fund innovative, world-class research throughout the UK and Ireland to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.

The charity currently supports around 106 projects worth £16.3 million in 38 centres across the UK and Ireland.

Breast Cancer Campaign’s "Wear it Pink Day"

Gym3

I'm taking part in a “gym-a-thon” at Fitness for Life gym on Rooley Moor Road to raise much needed funds for registered charity Breast Cancer Campaign.

I will partake in spin class, aerobics, rowing, running and more all of which will see me in the gym for two and a half hours on Sunday 24 October.

In an exciting twist to the challenge, I will be donning some form of pink clothing as part of the Breast Cancer Campaign’s ‘Wear it Pink Day’ theme.

A 2 hour 30 minute workout is going to be a killer -  as I struggle to complete a 45 minute spin class “To be honest the pink outfit is giving me more nightmares!"

Norwegian Recycling

Just come across this awesome "mash-up" from Norwegian video-editing & electronic music-producer Peter Bull (Norwegian Recycling). The track "Miracles" is composed of some really clever cut-and-paste vocal samples from artists such as Michael Jackson and Survivor to make an entirely new track!

Check it out...

The Apple iPod Nano nano wristwatch?

So Apple introduces a square-shaped new iPod and adorns it with an analog watch face for a lock screen, Japanese freelance writer Kei Ogikubo fixes the new iPod nano to his black watch strap... ta dar..You have a big and geeky wrist watch! kinda makes you think "Why didn't I think of that?" d'oh!

This is sure to be the start of many entrepreneurial types dusting off old and mostly worthless watch straps, cuting out an iPod nano-shaped compartment in them, and charge you £10...  wait a minute! I have an idea...

The Space Invader Couch

I'm feeling all "Retro" today, some serious pixel love being thrown at The Space Invader Couch. Now I know what your thinking pixels are uncomfortable! Not these bad boys, the couch formed of leather over a memory foam base, with a couple of glass surfaces over the arms... great so where do you get one? Well,  at the moment its only a prototype - but Igor Chak (the designer) is looking for a partner to manufacture and sell a limited edition series. Lets hope he finds one soon... I want one.

The Little People Project

The "Little People Project" is a street art installation and photography project by Slinkachu. It involves the remodelling and painting of miniature model train set characters, which are then placed on the street to encourage city-dwellers to be more aware of their surroundings and to reflect the loneliness and melancholy of living in a big city... check out the super cute pictures below
